This is a demonstration scene created to showcase the assets developed during the course in use. Therefore, there are no controls implemented in the scene. Please see below a brief description of the art creation steps.

The assets for the mysterious lost caves were created by me during my game art specialization course offered by Michigan State University. The first module focused on Pixel Art for Video Games.

The first step was the creation of the barrel, just a small simple asset that was part of the first task, to put into practice the learning of pixel art.

At the beginning of the course, the first step was to learn the basic concepts of concept art, including planning and sketching, as well as defining the color palette and style.

The next step involved creating characters for games, which included researching references and applying the skills previously acquired in concept art, sketching, and style.

After that, the concept was passed on to pixel art. I experimented with creating different styles of pixel art for the pirate. I finally chose the one I liked the most and made a basic Idle animation, as seen in the executable demonstration above.

Among all the styles, I really liked the minimalist pixel art style, which not only looks simple but also adds a beautiful and unique touch to the artwork. However, translating simpler objects into the minimalist style can be a bit challenging and requires a lot of creativity.

Next, I created some enemies for our scene. I created a bat with a basic flying animation, received some help in making a small spider with a climbing and descending animation on its web, and finally made a tentacle that moves, curls and uncurls. All the mobs and animations made are simple and were done with the purpose of learning.

Both the course and the creation of these assets were very positive experiences that gave me a fresh perspective on pixel art development for games. These were my first pixel art creations, and I hope you like them. Perhaps in the future, I will make more assets to be used with these, or maybe I will even create a game using these assets. Until next time!

Download the assets to use in your projects. Share your project using the assets in the comments, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

What License on using the assets? Looks great!

Hello, the license is CC0 (public domain), feel free to use it in your personal and professional projects as you wish!!

Is the demo supposed to work? As in, are we able to control the character, or maybe just scroll around?

Because if we are supposed to be able to do that, we can't.

Hello, thank you for the comment. It is just a demonstration scene to showcase the assets being used to build a scenario, and no controls have been implemented. I will add a note to the description. Thank you!
